Stephen Malkmus turned out to be a genius, 17 years later and it's been perfect sound forever. Those 2 records are superb, but so are the other Pavement records and the Malk's solo stuff.

There is a touching documentary that Pitchfork posted about Pixies tour in 2004. Kim can barely make it on stage with out the reinforcement of her sister standing in the wings.

Fabulous, Ben! You nailed it--the driving songs, the liberal arts ethos. I came to Pavement late, but a certain somebody played a cover of "Here" at a small sushi restaurant/rock club in Portland that pretty much changed my life completely.

2. Did you read the articles recently in Spin and somewhere else-- the first in which Malkmus mused that "Cut Your Hair" should have been their pop breakout single like "Cannonball" for the Breeders, and then in a subsequent interview with Kim Deal she called him a little bitch. Cranky indie royalty.
